I am a writer, editor and singer-songwriter from Shetland, currently based in Glasgow. My articles, essays and reviews have been published widely, and I've written on a variety of subjects, including politics, literature, landscape and agriculture.
My books, Sixty Degrees North and The Un-Discovered Islands, are out now with Polygon. My most recent book, a novel, The Valley at the Centre of the World, was published by Canongate in May 2018. I received a New Writers Award from the Scottish Book Trust in 2014, and the Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship in 2015.
I am contributing editor of the online magazine The Island Review, and was previously editor of Shetland Life magazine.
As a singer-songwriter, I have released four albums and an EP, and performed live in venues across the UK.
