Last Man Standing

Two of the last three British veterans of the First World War - Henry Allingham and Harry Patch - died in July. Only Claude Choules, now resident in Australia is left alive. Malachy's song, Last Man Standing, is available to listen on the Media page, and his Shetland Life editorial on the subject can be read here.

from the thorn: review

The first review of the new album is now available to read online, and it's a good one. You can read it here.

New album: from the thorn

Malachy Tallack's third album, from the thorn, is out now. The album has been recorded over the past year and includes both solo acoustic tracks and songs recorded with Malachy's full six-piece band. Some of the tracks were recorded in Dougie MacLean's Butterstone Studio in Perthshire, others in Shetland.

The band comprises:

Astryd Jamieson
: piano, vocals
Steven Laurenson: guitar, vocals
Graham Malcolmson: bass
Paul Mullay: drums
Malachy Tallack: guitar, vocals
Rory Tallack: fiddle, vocals

The album art is once again the work of the hugely talented Eve Eunson, and local heart-throb, shoe-fetishist and 'What's On' diarist Jordan Ogg also contributed a beautiful picture of the moon, which can be found beneath the CD.

The songs on from the thorn represent a significant step forward from previous albums, in terms of their writing, performance and production. There is a diversity of subject matter and style that will appeal to almost any listener.

Two sample tracks from the album can be heard below: 'More than a Lifetime' and 'Creeping Willow'.

You can also listen to a sampler mix from the album here.

The album launch, featuring the full band, will be held in the British Legion in Lerwick on Friday 5th June with the Donald Anderson Band supporting. Tickets are £5 and are available now. Check out the shop to purchase, or visit High Level Music.
