Writing people and places

Some of the richest non-fiction writing emerges from encounters with places and with people. This 5-day course, led by award-winning authors Fiona Sampson and Malachy Tallack, will demonstrate how to translate such encounters into words.

You’ll learn what details and sensory layers are needed to bring a place to the page. You’ll discover how a life story can be told, using archives and other research methods. And you’ll learn how to write about the person you (probably) know best of all: yourself.

Whether you’re working on biography, memoir or nature writing, this course will help you improve your prose. Through group discussions, writing exercises and one-to-one tutorials, you’ll develop the skills you need to produce clear and engaging non-fiction.
